Croquet Championship Players The entry for the Croquet Championships at Roehampton last week was quite a huge one, and the officials had an exceedingly busy time. The principal features of the earlier stages of the Open Championship were the good form shown by C. Corbally, and the defeat, by O. R. Richmond, in the fourth round, of the holder, Mrs. R. C. J. Beaton, better known to fame as Miss L. Gower. When she married her most dagerous rival in the croquet world, and an opponent with whom she had contested many a hard-fought game. It would have been interesting if the pair had again met in the first year of their married life, but Fate, and the good play of Mr. Richmond, ruled otherwise. In the penultimate round Corbally again proved irresistible, and ousted Beaton by 28 twice, while Mrs. Beaton's conqueror, Richmond, succumbed to that much-improved player, C. L. O'Callaghan. The final round was looked upon almost as a foregone conclusion for Corbally, in view of his irresistible play up to that point, and, therefore, excitement ran high when O'Callaghan took the first game by 28. The second, however, went exactly the other way — to Corbally by 28 — while in the third Corbally "did it again", and thereby won the Championship of 1906 in brilliant fashion.
