Despite a wet season this year, the Hurlingham Club in Fulham, London continued as the home of polo and croquet. Changes were on their way. The rules of croquet — a game of ruthless cunning belied by its air of gentility — were long established. In the year this picture was taken and unusual occurrence was noted. 'A party of young people were permitted to amuse themselves with music and dancing in the drawing room', something which obviously the hallowed rooms of Hurlingham had not experienced before. |
